And finally, if you really want to keep reading on this site: a few words about why I’m removing myself from “social media” and why I’m focusing on this site and newsletters/channels instead:
I am disappointed by the current state of the internet, I’m disappointed by algorithmic feeds and for-profit-incentives informing corporate decisions that determine the ways most people interact on the internet nowadays. Social media are a promotion tool for many artists, but most artist struggle to promote their actual work on “social media” and find themselves doing all kinds of things to catch attention and then divert that attention to their art.
Posting selfies, filming themselves, generating another hot take to fulfil the algo’s needs for new rage bait to keep its users locked into its toxic but addictive user experience, are these the things artists really set out to do in the first place? For some artists it actually might be, but for me it’s definitely not.
To preserve my sanity and creativity, I am trying to reduce my presence on platforms that I don’t believe are effective promotion for artists, and that I don’t believe are good for humans. Allowing “social media” to take over so much of our lives is an incredible experiment on a global scale, that no one really consented to. Removing myself from social media, refusing to promote popular platforms, and still trying to have a career is very much also an experiment, an experiment that might fail.
I still want to be able to update my followers on my music and other news, but I don’t want to please whatever algorithm the tech lords put in place to protect their command over your attention. If I can afford, I’d love to avoid dancing the selfie dance and I’d love to avoid those addictive apps that seem to require constant presence. Yeah, the apps are very well made, I can’t deny that.
So I’m going to try to focus on my email newsletter, my whatsapp&signal news channels, and platforms like Subvert and Echio that I do believe in.
Lastly, I am an independent artist, without management. Because of this, I don’t intend to update this website frequently. Apologies if any information is out of date.
Cheers! xT
