I take education seriously. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience. It’s one of the most meaningful ways to contribute to life in general.
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed giving masterclasses, and helping out 1-on-1 when I see someone’s potential and think I can help, it started out on forums in the early 2000s, mostly via DM’s and emails over the last decades. I used to do most of the A&R work for Vision, Division and Invisible. A lot of this work I’ve done for free, just because it gives my life purpose to significantly help others.
But if you’ve sent me your productions in DMs lately, you’ve probably not had a response from me. I get sent a lot of music. Too much to keep up with.
And when I give feedback, I want to do it thoroughly and thoughtfully. I always have to ask questions about intentions, and always have to get an idea who I’m talking to before I can give meaningful advice. I can’t extend this kind of attention to everyone. I have to be selective in this.
I’ve decided to try out a (paid) platform for this: Echio. They offer production feedback, 1-on-1 mentoring and masterclasses, by artists for artists. Their roster is quite impressive! I’m very curious if it can be a win-win situation. It’s another experiment.
PS. I realise paying for this privilege isn’t for everyone. I will keep doing things for free as well. Especially when it’s about sharing my knowledge and experience with marginalised and minority communities, I see that as a very meaningful activity. Feel free to reach out to me if you organise communities like these.
